National Fire Protection Association

The National Fire Protection Association is the authority on fire, electrical, and building safety. The mission of the international nonprofit NFPA, established in 1896, is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education. The world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source on public safety, NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks. U.S. Fire Administration

As an entity of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, the mission of the U.S. Fire Administration is to foster a solid foundation in prevention, preparedness, and response by providing national leadership to local fire and emergency services. The site features fire safety tips on smoke alarms, residential fire sprinklers, escape planning and fire extinguishers, as well as news about USFA fire safety initiatives. [ more ]


Home Safety Council

The Home Safety Council is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home injuries. The Home Safety Council's All-Ways Fire Safe at Home Toolbox is filled with home fire safety educational materials for four populations. Funded in part through a 2005 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant and produced in conjunction with Weekly Reader, the All-Ways Fire Safe at Home toolbox has been distributed to daycare centers, elementary and middle schools, and senior centers, reaching more than 6 million.
